Our Process

Finish Phase 22-Step Finish System

Most builders sell you a price and figure out the details as they go. We do the opposite.

The Finish Phase Is Where Forest Heart Becomes Forest Heart

Anyone can frame a house. Few builders truly finish one. The final ten percent of any project is where craftsmanship is most visible and most often compromised. We do not compromise here. Our 22-step finish system, our punch-list discipline, and our client orientation are designed to deliver a home that is ready to live in not a project still waiting on someone to come back next week.

The 22-Step Finish System

Every painted, stained, sprayed, or lacquered surface in a Forest Heart home moves through our proprietary 22-step finish system. The system covers surface preparation, primer application, multiple coats of finish, intermediate sanding between coats, and final inspection under raking light. The result is a depth, evenness, and durability of finish that you cannot achieve with field-applied paint.

Cabinetry, paneling, doors, mantels, and architectural millwork are finished in our climate-controlled spray booth never on a job site where dust, humidity, and temperature swings degrade the result. See the Craftsmanship section for the full step-by-step detail of the system.

Client Orientation and Owner's Manual

Before you move in, we conduct a comprehensive client orientation every system, every control, every piece of equipment. You receive a custom owner’s manual with manufacturer documentation, warranty information, recommended maintenance schedules, and quick-reference cards for the systems you’ll interact with daily. Many of our clients refer to that binder for years.

Punch-List Discipline

The punch list the final list of small items to complete or correct is where most builders run out of patience. We treat it as a phase, not an afterthought. Your project manager walks the home with you and documents every item. We schedule completion within a defined window. We do not consider the project complete until your list is.

Common Questions

FAQ About the Finish Phase

What kind of warranty comes with a Forest Heart home?

We provide a comprehensive workmanship warranty on all our work, in addition to manufacturer warranties on equipment, fixtures, and appliances. Specific terms are detailed in your contract. We also remain responsive to questions long after warranty periods end — many of our clients call us a decade later for advice on additions or maintenance.

We schedule a formal walk-through approximately one year after substantial completion to address any settling, seasonal movement, or items that have emerged during a full year of occupancy. This is standard with every Forest Heart project.

Many of our clients come back to us for additions, renovations, or millwork years after their original build. We know the home we built it and that institutional knowledge makes future work faster, cleaner, and less disruptive.
